Our Guide to: Enhancing Your Home's Kerb Appeal

First impressions matter, especially when it comes to your home. Whether you're preparing to sell or simply want to spruce up your property, improving your home's kerb appeal can make a world of difference.
When we look to sell our home or are looking to generally make improvements, we so often focus on the inside of a property and neglect the outside or front of our home. However, this is the first area that anyone entering your home will look at so it is just as important! We have put together this guide to help you make your home stand out and create the best first impression.

Start with the basics

A tidy exterior is the foundation of great kerb appeal. Begin by giving your property a thorough once-over:
  • Mow the lawn and trim any overgrown hedges or trees
  • Decluttering is important outside too, so make sure you clear away any clutter, including bins, toys, and gardening equipment
  • Give your driveway and pathways a good clean with a pressure washer, removing any weeds that have grown.
These simple steps can instantly refresh your home's appearance and create a welcoming atmosphere.

Freshen up your frontage

The facade of your home is also important in making your home stand out. Here's how to make it shine:
  • If needed, give your front door a new lease of life with a fresh coat of paint. Choose a bold colour that complements your home's exterior for a striking effect. Otherwise, a thorough clean will do wonders too!
  • Clean your windows and frames, or consider repainting them if they're looking tired.
  • If your brickwork or paintwork is looking a bit tired consider either giving this a good pressure wash or repainting.

Light the way

Good lighting not only enhances safety but also adds warmth and ambience to your property:
  • Install wall lights on either side of your front door
  • Add solar-powered LED lights along your garden path or driveway. Lighting around your patio or outdoor seating area also helps to create a cosy atmosphere
  • Consider motion-sensitive lights for added security and convenience.

Green up your space

A bit of greenery can go a long way in boosting the kerb appeal of your home:
  • Plant seasonal flowers or shrubs in beds or hanging baskets for a pop of colour throughout the year
  • Place potted plants on either side of your front door for a welcoming touch
  • Make sure your hedges and well-trimmed and weeds removed regularly
  • Ensure your lawn is well-maintained and consider reseeding any patchy areas

Don't forget the details

Small touches can make a big difference:
  • Cleaning or repainting your fence and gates can help them look like new
  • Ensure your gutters are clear and in good repair - blocked gutters don’t make for a good first impression!
  • Add a doormat to your front entrance that compliments your home.

Enhancing your home's kerb appeal doesn't have to be a massive undertaking and even some small improvements can make a significant impact. Whether your are looking to sell your home, or just looking to enhance your home’s exterior, by following these tips you will create a home that you are proud to come home to every day.
