Description
STUART LODGE – AN EXCEPTIONAL VICTORIAN VILLA WITH HUGE VERSATILITY & EXCEPTIONAL VALUE FOR MONEY
Stuart Lodge is an impressive Victorian Villa positioned on the edge of Chelston, just moments from local amenities, picturesque coastal walks and the beautiful beaches of Torquay. Extensively renovated and redesigned by the current owners, this elegant property combines timeless character with modern luxury throughout. Offering generous and flexible accommodation, the property is currently arranged as a seven-bedroom, all en-suite family home with six spacious reception rooms, including dedicated office spaces, ideal for those working from home or multi-generational living opportunities. Alternatively, it could easily be adapted to provide a substantial four-bedroom residence with scope for three self-contained apartments, perfect for income generation, charitable use, or commercial occupation.
The Villa has been fully re-wired using Cat 5 cabling throughout. Stuart Lodge benefits from private, gated parking for up to 14 vehicles along with an EV charging point. Beautifully landscaped gardens to the front and rear have been designed for low maintenance and feature multiple al fresco seating areas for fine dining and entertaining. Elevated views towards Torquay Harbour and partial sea views from the upper floors certainly enhance the setting. Despite its scale, Stuart Lodge feels warm and inviting, with a natural flow that can only be fully appreciated in person.
This is a rare opportunity to own a truly unique and beautifully appointed home with exceptional potential in a superb coastal location.
OWNERS INSIGHT
Around four years ago we found ourselves looking for a large house in a nice location that would suit a multitude of requirements. We have always liked the character and size of the Villas in Torbay and we instantly fell in love with this property. We required significant space to embrace our family and business as well as plenty of storage. The property had been run as a hotel for a number of years and we had a vision to take it to the next level as a comfortable living space of our own. No expense has been spared with the remodelling of the Villa and we are absolutely thrilled with the finished product. The indoor pool has been removed and we have created just the most fabulous Sitting Room with a beautiful curved Oak ceiling remaining. We have selected high quality fixtures and fittings throughout and the bespoke kitchen with an imported Italian Granite worktop looks sensational. The Villa proved to be a renovation which has taken longer and cost more than we had envisaged but the end product has proved worthwhile and provides extraordinary value.
Whether you are looking for a home, income stream or a commercial entity Stuart Lodge really does tick most of the boxes. The property could easily be subdivided into a home and three separate units if one wished and there is ample private parking to the back of the Villa complementing the accommodation beautifully. Unfortunately, due to continued ill health and a family bereavement, we have sadly decided to sell Stuart Lodge. We do however hope that the new owners enjoy it as much as we have during our short period of occupancy. Undoubtably, the new owners of Stuart Lodge will certainly benefit from the fruits of our hard work over the last few years.
LOCATION
Occupying an elevated and peaceful position on Rousdown Road, Stuart Lodge enjoys glimpses of the Bay from the front garden and upper floors. Chelston's shops, cafés, and amenities are all within easy reach, as well as the Royal Torbay Yacht Club, Torre Abbey Meadows, and the bustling Torquay harbourfront. The scenic South West Coast Path and nearby sandy beaches offer countless opportunities for walking and recreation. The charming village of Cockington and its Country Park are a short stroll away, while Torquay town centre is under a mile distant, offering a wide range of shops, restaurants, and services. Excellent transport links include Torquay railway station, a brief walk away, which connects to the Paddington mainline via Newton Abbot (approx. 2 hrs 45 mins to London). Exeter Airport is around 28 miles away and is accessible in 45 minutes via the South Devon Expressway.
